Private Callers: Find Out Who’s Calling

Private Callers: Find Out Who’s Calling

Do you sometimes get random phone calls from a mysterious “Private Caller”?
You’re not alone.
As more and more telemarketers and spammers target everyday people, a number of private callers radically increases.
And chance are, they’re not hiding their identity to do you any good.

So who or what is a private caller?

A private caller is a person who has hidden or otherwise obfuscated their phone number. Oftentimes their number ends up showing up as “Private Caller”, “Restricted”, “Unknown Caller ID” or “No Caller ID“.

Is there a surefire way to see private callers?

Private Caller ID can only be unblocked when it is routed to a 1-800 number or an emergency hotline such as 911. Your only chance of unblocking private caller ID is by using a proxy service such as Trapcall.
TrapCall can unblock private callers by re-routing your callers to a 1-800 number and then routing back to you – with the full caller id.

How Can I Block Private Callers?

Blocking all Private Callers is sort of possible.
If you’re on iPhone you can block calls from everyone who’s not on your contact list by doing the following:

  1. go to settings
  2. open “Do Not Disturb”
  3. slide on “Manual”
  4. tap on “Allow Calls From”
  5. Select “All Contacts”
All calls from numbers not on your contacts list will now end up being blocked.
If you’re on Android
  1. Go to the dial screen
  2. Tap “Settings”
  3. Tap “Call Blocking”
  4. Tap “Block List”
  5. Select “Block Anonymous Calls”
This solution will work beautifully if your goal is just to blacklist people who call you from an unknown number.

But what if you want to know who the private caller is?

Trapcall will allow you to see a history of all numbers that attempted to call you as private callers. Verify the numbers and if they’re ones you want to get calls from in the future – add them to your contacts.
Trapcall will allow you to:
  1. Find out who called you as a private number
  2. Keep a record of spammers/harassers.
  3. Block specific private number callers
If you see a name and/or number (or no number) that you recognize, do not answer the phone call!

How can you find out who’s calling?

We wrote an in-depth post on how to find out who’s calling here.
